Announcements  
·         Forum’s Facebook page is now active at www.facebook.com/jeffcoforum.  Directions for posting and using were discussed
·         As the last was not printed, another press release will be sent to the Leader to advertise October’s meeting.  Can look at putting our Facebook page link on local chambers of commerce and other groups’ sites to generate publicity.  Also want to get in touch with forum members from past meetings to invite renewed participation
·         2015 meeting schedule is now available
·         Next meeting is Monday, October 20, 1pm in the Viking Room Annex, Jefferson College, Hillsboro

Josh Henry :
·         Antique Appraisal – Sat 9/20, 11am-3pm. Local antiques expert Joan Komlos will appraise items for $5 each.  Items must be transportable to library meeting room.  Proceeds benefit Arnold Branch Friends of the Library.  No pre-registration needed
·         Save Your Seeds – Sat 9/27, 9:30-10:30am.  Learn all about collecting and saving seeds from different kinds of plants.  The Arnold Branch has a seed library for patrons to take and donate heirloom seeds.  Register, 636-296-5171

Sandy Meyer:
·         Smoking Cessation Classes – Beginning 10/1, 6pm at Health Dept. locations in Hillsboro and Arnold.  7-week support-group based program to help quit smoking successfully.  Register, 636-282-1010 x268
·         Dental Van – For children ages 3-18 on MO Medicaid or uninsured.  Van visits schools.  Call the Health Dept. at 636-797-3737 and ask for dental van phone number to make an appointment

Char Linhorst:
·         WIA Youth Program continues to take applications for youth ages 16-21 who fall under eligibility guidelines.  May qualify for assistance with job opportunities, workshops on resume writing, interviewing, career exploration, and more


Mary Tinsley:
·         Constituent service day will be held in Jefferson County on September 16th, 2:30-3:30pm, Crystal City- City Hall

General discussion  
·         Molly Pfeiffer has left JCCF for a new job/relocation.  Josh Henry will chair meetings through end of year.  Opportunity to select new chairperson and taker of minutes at November’s meeting
·         Facebook page will be created and shared with members to begin posting their information and events before next meeting
·         Suggestions for increasing attendance offered, such as sending a press release to the Leader newspaper, making JCCF links available through local chamber of commerce websites.  Will send a press release to the Leader to advertise September’s meeting
·         Next meeting is Monday, September 15, 1pm in the Viking Room Annex, Jefferson College, Hillsboro

Josh Henry :
·         Knitting for Beginners - Thurs 9/25 and Mon 9/29, 6-8:30pm, at Arnold Library.  Learn knitting basics and knit a scarf in this two-part class.  Class is free, participants must bring needles and yarn.  Supply list available from library.  Register, 636-296-5171

Doug Over:
·         AARP Smart Driver Course – 9/2 at Arnold Library, 12-4pm; 9/8 at Northwest Library, 10am-2pm; 9/16 Scenic Library in Union, 10am-2pm; 9/29 at Windsor Library, 10am-2pm.  Drive safe and smart by refreshing driving skills and knowing the new rules of the road.  Many insurance companies offer discounts upon course completion.  $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.  Doug Over, 636-296-0535

Sandy Nappier:
·         Certified Nurse’s Aid Program – To qualify students for employment in long-term care facility. ·         State Parks Youth Corps  – Jobs at state parks (Babler, Castlewood, Robertsville, Route 66, Eastern Parks Office) for ages 17 - 23.  Work outdoors and on trails up to 300 hours @ $7.50 per hour, 3 days per week on average, through December.  Call Sandy Nappier to discuss eligibility based on household income, 314-808-6829, 1-800-292-1314 x262.  Then apply at www.thinkoutside.mo.gov

General discussion led by Molly –
·         There will be no meeting in July
·         Online poll results indicate busy schedules and long drives are obstacles to meeting attendance
·         Bringing in guest speakers or having attendees make presentations remain options
·         Majority of responders say an online/Facebook presence is desirable.  Facebook page can be established during July, then use evaluated at August meeting
·         One possibility is to alternate in-person meetings one month with online meetings the next.  Another is to hold meetings in-person and online jointly, using Skype or Google tools


Molly Pfeiffer:
·         Summer Reading Program – Now through July 31.  See scanned flyer for schedule of events.
·         AARP Driver Safety Training Course – Tues 7/8, 10am-2:30pm.  $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.  Some insurance companies offer discounts for drivers who complete this course.  Healthy lunch provided by Jilly’s Too CafĂ©, suggested contribution $3.25.  Sign-up required, 636-677-8186, mpfeiffer@jeffcolib.org

Stephanie Paul:

Amy Baum:
·         CASA trains and supports volunteers to advocate for children in foster care and child welfare systems.  Volunteers undergo screening, background checks, and 5 weeks of training.  Once sworn in as officer of the court and assigned a child in foster care, volunteers work 1 to 2 years with child, caseworkers, and juvenile officers with the goal of finding the child a safe, permanent home.  Volunteers write court reports and recommendations.  See more details in scanned documents.  www.jeffersoncountycasa.org


Josh Henry:
·         Summer Reading Program – Now through July 31.  For kids and teens.  Read 5 books (kids) and 3 books (teens) to win a prize, read more books for more prizes.  Reading logs available at all Jefferson County library branches
