Call to order and welcome: Meredith called meeting to order at 1:05 pm and welcomed all.

Minutes of 2/22: Minutes were approved as written.

New business:

Jefferson County Library Arnold – Meredith McCarthy distributed the following fliers for upcoming events and services: (1) Learning Express Library is designed to help people improve their testing skills or further their education or career. Job resources databases are accessible through www.jeffersoncountylibrary.org; (2) Read MOre is celebrating Mark Twain as 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Twain’s death. For more information concerning Read MOre activities call Myra Hill at 636-296-5171; (3) Free webinar at the library 4/14 from 3pm-4pm on how to make your resume WOW! Contact Meredith at 636-296-5171 for more information.

Jefferson County Library Northwest – Molly Pfeiffer distributed the following fliers: (1) Identity Theft Program being offered on April 6 from 6-6:30 pm and April 13 from 10-10:30. A representative from Midwest Bankcentre will educate participants on how to avoid becoming a victim of identity theft and what to do in case you have become a victim; (2) How to find a job via social networking, 4/13 at 6:00 pm. Allen Turner from MO Career Center will discuss how to use your social networks to find unadvertised jobs;
(3) Author’s Day, 5/22 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. This is a meet and greet and book-signing event where local authors can advertise their books. If you have published a book or know others who have, get in touch with the Northwest Branch at 636-677-8186. (4) AARP Driver’s Safety Program 4/8 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm.

MEAAA – Stephanie Paul announced: (1) An upcoming Caregiver’s Retreat 4/21 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. This is a fun and relaxing event for any caregiver of older adults. Free lunch, massages and education and resources will be given. Loved ones are welcome to attend for their own fun activities. Call Stephanie at 636-933-1347; (2) Meals on Wheels Adopt a Route. MEAAA is looking for agencies and groups to “adopt a route” for delivery of meals to homebound seniors. Routes take just an hour a day to complete and the number of days committed may vary. Call John Gamache at 636-207-0847 x 106 for more information.

JCDDRB – Pam Branson distributed a list of spring classes at Jefferson College Hillsboro Campus. Classes range from Consumer Credit Education and Fraud Prevention to Understanding Medicare. For a listing of all classes or to enroll call Jefferson College 636-797-2000 x 144. Disability Support Systems of Jefferson County is sponsoring the 2nd Annual Trivia Showdown, 3/19 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Call Pam at 636-282-4444 for more information

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri – Missy Waldman distributed brochures explaining how Advocates for Family Health assist families, children and pregnant women who are eligible for Missouri’s Medicaid (MO HealthNet) program. All services are free of charge. For more information call Missy at 314-256-8767.

HealthCare USA – Daphne Terrill reported that HealthCare USA has been busy preparing for NCQA certification. She also mentioned there are several programs that give free cell phones to eligible individuals (those receiving food stamps, TANF, etc); One program is Reach Out, web address is www.reachoutmobile.com; Another program is Life Line.

COMTREA – Jan Freeman announced that COMTREA’s “A Safe Place” shelter for battered women and their children is hosting a fashion show on 4/18 from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm at Andre’s West in Fenton, MO. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased by calling 636-232-2309 or contacting mfaulkner@comtrea.org.

DRA – Erin Benz announced Disability Rights Legislative Day on 3/23. Transportation and lunch will be provided. Contact Erin at erinb@disabilityresourcesassociation.org if you know of anyone who is interested in attending.

St. Louis Regional Office – Peggy Jones reminded everyone that SLRO is always looking for referrals for any child with a developmental disability or an adult who was diagnosed prior to age 21. Call 636-931-0039 for more information. Peggy distributed a brochure announcing Together Going the Distance Run Walk to be held on 3/27 at 6:30 am at West City Park in Festus, MO. Proceeds benefit Barb McDowell Fund and developmental disabilities. Call 636-933-0244 for more information.

Jefferson County Library-Arnold, Meredith McCarthy distributed flyers regarding What’s happening at your library.  What’s happening at your library?, flyer is events happening at the Arnold Branch.  Calendar of events can be located at www.jeffersoncountylibrary.org.  She reported that there will be a AARP driver safety Course on 4-9-10 at 10am-2om.  The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members.  There will be a sewing class: for finger potholders and oven mitts on 3-31-0 at 6pm.  She also reported about safely install your home generator class on 4-19-10 at 6:30pm.   Contact Meredith McCarthy at 636-296-5171 for more information.

Jefferson County Community Partnership, Jessica Rhodes discussed the Jefferson County Dental Coalition Meeting will be on 3-9-10 at 2:00pm at JCCP.  Give Kids a Smile starts April 17, May 1 and May 15 at Allied College and Dental Offices.  Volunteers and donations needed.  SIDS/SBS Prevention Training is monthly at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  The next on is 2-16-10 at 6pm.  Also Safe Babies Program, safe sleep equipment is available.  Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems meeting is 2-26-10 at JCCP at 9:30am to address the access to quality early childhood programs.  Contact Jessica for more information at 636-464-5144 ex 20.  February 22-26, 2010 is ride Jeffco Express bus free week!  Contact Dennis Murphy at 636-464-5144 ex 15.

United Way 2-1-1, Phyllis Hicks discussed that they received 116,000 calls last year.  Call 314-242-1882.

American Cancer Society, Lynn Stephan distributed hand outs for Relay for Life-Festus on May7-8, 2010.  Contact Lynn at 314-286-8165 for more information.

Get Healthy Desoto, Debbie Campbell distributed the Get Healthy Desoto news letter.  http://gethealthydesoto.blogspot.com.  She stated that the Healthy Lunch and Learn is on 3-10-10 at 12pm at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church to discuss Home grown Revolution.  She stated that the Desoto’s Farmer’s Market’s opening day is May 8th.  She stated that the market will be open every Saturday from 8am-noon until October 23rd.   Please contact Debbie at 636-586-4570 for more information.

Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Stephanie Paul distributed hand outs.  She reported that a Caregiver Retreat will be April 21st and Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  She distributed a hand out on Prescription drug assistance programs for Medicare.  She reported that there is a Alzheimer’s Caregiver support group in Jefferson County.  For more information contact Stephanie at 636-933-1347.

Jefferson County P.R.I.D.E., Cindy Pharis distributed hand outs for Professional Training.  The training is ‘Prescription Drugs and Alcohol: A Dangerous Cocktail’.  It will be at Fox Service Center, Arnold on March 12th from 8:15am-12:30pm.  She reported that Prescription Drug Take Back will be starting up again in March.  She reported that she can do presentation for any agencies staff or clients on the following: Meth 360, Face 2 Face, and Parents: You Matter! and for youth grades 3-9 they can do presentations on: Nurture your Noggin series and Wreck Ed.

Memory Care Home Solutions, Steve Miskovic reported that there will be a Community Workshop on Dementia Education.  It is a one hour program that provides recommendation and strategies that caregivers can use to assist their loved one that has dementia or memory loss.  Contact Steve for more information at 314-645-6247.

Center for Hearing and Speech, Ann Munier reported that the center is a not-for-profit organization providing audiology and speech services for all ages.  They offer financial assistance with all services.  They do not turn anyone away for services.  The center is supported by United Way a private donation.  Contact Ann for more information at 314-968-4710.

American Red Cross, Dale Chambers distributed hand outs on Babysitter Training.  The next training is March 13 and 15 from 8:30 to 3pm.  He reported that they can provide Disaster Preparedness classes as a free service.  Contact Dale at 636-464-9150 for more information.  For Blood Services contact 1-800-Give Life or Peggy Lake at 314-239-6173.

Heathcare USA, John Falcone reported that they are trying to increase utilization rates for members in the area of prevention care, such as annual physicals for teens and other ages, dental and mental health.  Contact John for more information at 314-444-7903.

JC-DDRB, Pam Branson distributed fliers on All-Ability Expo and Developmental Disabilities Series.  The All-Ability Expo will be on March 6, 2010 at 10an-2pm at Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold.  Contact Pam at 636-282-4444 for more information. The Developmental Disabilities Series starts April 1st at Jefferson College Hillsboro Camus, all classes are free.  The classes will cover: Income Tax Breaks and Credits for Individuals with Development Disabilities, Consumer Credit Education and Fraud Prevention, Understanding Medicare, Transitioning from School to Work, and Understanding Medications.  To enroll call Jefferson College at 636-797-3000 ex 144.

Jefferson County Library-High Ridge, Molly Pfeiffer reported that there will be a job search series to help with resumes and interviewing on 3-1, 3-8, and 3-15.  She reported that there are ongoing adult programs.  Arthritis exercise classes are on Monday and Wednesday mornings for 9-10.  She reported that there will be a AARP driver safety Course on 4-8-10 at 10am-2om.  The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members.  

Disability Resource Association, Erin Benz reported that they would be attending the 9th annual disability rights legislative day in Jefferson City on March 23.  Some transportation will be available through DRA for those interested in attending.  She reported that there is help with Circuit Breakers.  They ask for a $10 donation for services and the client must be age 65 or disabled with $27,500 max income for single person.  Contact Erin for more information at 636-931-7696.
