Announcements  
·         There will be no meeting in December.  Happy holidays!
·         Next meeting is Monday, January 26, 1pm in the Viking Room Annex, Jefferson College, Hillsboro
·         At the next meeting will be the opportunity to select a new Chair and Secretary

Josh Henry :
·         Red Cross Blood Drive – Sat 11/22, 10am-2pm.  Walk-ins welcome, or make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visiting redcrossblood.org, using sponsor code JeffcoLibraryArnold.  All donors must present photo ID

·         Food for Fines – One can of food pays $1 in library fines at all JCL branches.  Last Friday of the month, but one week early in November and December  for holidays– 11/22, 12/19

Jim Espie:
·         Interested in starting caregiver support group at Jefferson College, finding resources for caregivers, and connecting with social work and community resources

Sara Dee:
·         DRA annual Xmas open house will be held 12/23, 10am-3pm.  Eat, drink, socialize!  Details to follow, watch Forum’s Facebook page

Mary Tinsley:
·         Constituent service day is being held today, 11/17, at Herculaneum City Hall, 3-4pm

Doug Over:
·         Smart Driver Safety Course – Mon 11/24, 10am-2pm at JCL Windsor Branch.  Registration is required for this AARP class.  $15 for AARP members or $20 for non-members, payable the day of the class.  Sign up by phone at 636-461-1714 at Windsor’s Information desk or online at aarp.org

Meeting Minutes - October 20, 2014



Jefferson County Forum Meeting October 20, 2014

In attendance:  Charline Linhorst with VIA Youth Program, Chrissy Oberle with the Jefferson County Health Dept., Mary Tinsley for Congressman Blaine Luetkeymeyer District Representative, Sara Dee with Disability Resource Association and Missy Waldman with Legal Services of Eastern MO.

1.       Charline discussed on going applications with employment assistance and career guidance.

2.       Chrissy discussed information on their family planning clinic which provides STD testing, pregnancy testing, birth control and other services.  An agency brochure was passed out.

3.       Mary Tinsley for Congressman Luetkeymeyer discussed that the congressman will be hosting a constituents day in Herculaneum on November 17, 2014 at the Herculaneum City Hall.  More information about time will be announced soon.

4.       Sara Dee discussed their Holiday assistance food basket program through the United Way 100 neediest families. They are busy working on the food baskets.  DRA will have a Christmas open house on December 23, 2014 from 10 a.m.  to 3 p.m.  DRA has a Parkinson’s support group every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m.

5.       Missy Waldman discussed MO HealthNet and FSD issues as it relates to receiving, processing and approving Medicaid programs for children, pregnant women and families.  There are also problems with food stamp and child care recertification’s.  Missy handed out brochures to Public Benefits for FS and CC issues and gave the phone number to AFH hotline for coverage issues for children, pregnant women and families.

·         Sara expressed problems with FSD processing blind pension applications.  One case took over 6 months to process.
·         Missy told Sara to have those clients call our Public Benefits Unit for help.

Announcements  
·         Forum’s Facebook page is now active at www.facebook.com/jeffcoforum.  Directions for posting and using were discussed
·         As the last was not printed, another press release will be sent to the Leader to advertise October’s meeting.  Can look at putting our Facebook page link on local chambers of commerce and other groups’ sites to generate publicity.  Also want to get in touch with forum members from past meetings to invite renewed participation
·         2015 meeting schedule is now available
·         Next meeting is Monday, October 20, 1pm in the Viking Room Annex, Jefferson College, Hillsboro

Josh Henry :
·         Antique Appraisal – Sat 9/20, 11am-3pm. Local antiques expert Joan Komlos will appraise items for $5 each.  Items must be transportable to library meeting room.  Proceeds benefit Arnold Branch Friends of the Library.  No pre-registration needed
·         Save Your Seeds – Sat 9/27, 9:30-10:30am.  Learn all about collecting and saving seeds from different kinds of plants.  The Arnold Branch has a seed library for patrons to take and donate heirloom seeds.  Register, 636-296-5171

Sandy Meyer:
·         Smoking Cessation Classes – Beginning 10/1, 6pm at Health Dept. locations in Hillsboro and Arnold.  7-week support-group based program to help quit smoking successfully.  Register, 636-282-1010 x268
·         Dental Van – For children ages 3-18 on MO Medicaid or uninsured.  Van visits schools.  Call the Health Dept. at 636-797-3737 and ask for dental van phone number to make an appointment

Char Linhorst:
·         WIA Youth Program continues to take applications for youth ages 16-21 who fall under eligibility guidelines.  May qualify for assistance with job opportunities, workshops on resume writing, interviewing, career exploration, and more


Mary Tinsley:
·         Constituent service day will be held in Jefferson County on September 16th, 2:30-3:30pm, Crystal City- City Hall
