Mid-East Area Agency on Aging
Stephanie distributed Prime Connections newsletter with activities, support groups and events for seniors throughout Jefferson Co. Contact Stephanie to be placed on electronic mailing list – spaul@mid-eastaaa.org
Caregiver support group open to any caregiver of loved one of any age or medical condition.  Meets 2nd Tuesday of each month 2pm at NW Jefferson Co. Senior Resource Center, 6180 Hwy MM, House Springs. Call Stephanie Paul, 636-253-0558
Low Vision Center open at NW Jefferson Co. Senior Resource Center.  Low vision aids can be loaned free of charge to individuals 55+ with vision loss.

Legal Services of Eastern Missouri
Missy Waldman provided LSEM Advocates for Family Health brochures.
Have clients call LSEM hotline if they have problems with their coverage or eligibility issues.  Professionals may contact Missy about spend down issues on behalf of clients, or have client call hotline.

Jefferson County Library, Northwest
Molly distributed info on the following upcoming events:
April 23rd 6:30pm - ABC’s of Family Finance – Honest talk about money – finding it, saving it, planning for the future with it.  Talk about reducing debt, too. 
April 25th 6pm – Vegetable Gardening workshop – Learn about making your own vegetable garden without a lot of land and without digging it up.  Will teach how to prep and plant, materials needed, maintenance and timelines. 
April 5th 10-noon - AARP Drivers Safety – AARP leads this course on driver’s safety.  Fee of $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members.  Certificate given at the end of class – may reduce insurance rates. Payment accepted day of class only.

Jefferson College
Sandy Nappier provided info on WIA Youth Program is accepting applications from youth ages 16-21 for summer employment and possible tuition assistance.
College is hosting Job Fair on March 22nd from 1-4pm, contact Tim Morrell, tmorrell@jeffco.edu
Habitat for Humanity is holding a family selection workshop at Jefferson Regional Medical Center on March 24th at 9am.  Interested families must bring completed application form available at www.habitatjeffcomo.org Call 636-933-3606 for more info.

Living Well Village
Amber Simmons provided information on the following events:

Bunco fundraiser to benefit Arnold Food Pantry will be held Friday April 13th 7-9pm. $20 per person includes beer, wine, soda, snacks and chance to win $500 cash prize.  Contact Kelly 636-296-1910 or Kelly@arnoldchamber.org
Living Well Foundation $6000 cash raffle drawing will take place on August 24th at golf tournament.  Wining ticket prizes $4000, $1000 and $500.  Seller of first prize ticket wins $500. First Touch – Ellen Coyle
  • Ellen Coyle announced First Touch is a new faith based organization providing assistance to Jefferson County residents.  She is looking for resources and information about the greatest needs of residents so that First Touch can redefine their service populations and goals.  Anyone with questions or information for Ellen call her at 636-467-5770 or email at eecjpc2000@yahoo.com

Jefferson County Community Partnership – Jessica Rhodes and Cristina Kruetz
·        “Give Kids a Smile”  provides free dental care.  Jefferson Co. children between ages 5-18 with no dental insurance are eligible.  Application packets are due ASAP.  Call Jessica Rhodes at -636-464-5144 x 20 or email coordinator@jccp.org
·        The Jefferson County Early Childhood Comprehensive System is collecting clean containers, 6 inches or bigger for container garden demos for children and families.  Call Jessica for more info.
·        “A Night of Comedy” fundraiser will be held Friday March 23 at The Pastime Club 5557 US Hwy 61/67, Imperial, MO 63052.  Dinner at 6pm, show begins at 7pm.  $25 general admission for one includes two entrĂ©e buffet and two drink tickets.  Contact Sophie Emery for more information – 636-464-5144 x 13 or development@jccp.org
·        The Parenting Network, a program for first time stay at home parents with children under 3 yrs who are WIC eligible.  The program provides home visits and support to improve parenting skills and prepare children for entering school. Call Cristina for more info 636-464-5144 x 14.
·        Building Strong Families Parenting Classes.  Classes start March 20th – May 8th - Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30.  Christ’s Church, 304B Locust St, Hillsboro. $5 per class per person, or $65 per person for all 8 classes or $95 per couple for all 8 classes.   • March adult program calendar distributed.
  • AARP Driver’s Safety Course – April 5th 10am-2pm, $12 members, $14 nonmembers. Sign up required. All driving ages welcome.
  • PACE Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program - Mondays and Wednesday 9am-10am. You don’t have to have arthritis to participate.  Designed for adults with limited mobility – most exercises can be done from chair.  No sign up required, free classes.
  • Genealogy Databases Class – March 7th 2:30pm and March 8th 6:30pm – learn more about library’s databases including Ancestry & HeritageQuest. Free for card holders, sign up required.

  • Grand Opening and Resource Fair – Northwest Jefferson County Senior Resource Center, 6180 Hwy MM, House Springs.  March 9th 9am-2pm.  Ribbon Cutting at 9:30.  Information on programs for seniors and caregivers.  Glaucoma screenings, blood pressure checks, games, live music.   • New Caregiver Support group meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at Northwest Senior Resource Center – 6180 Hwy MM, House Springs.  Call Stephanie for more info 636-253-0558
  • Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Recruiting teams and corporate sponsors for the First Jefferson County Walk.  No minimum team size or donation required. Free registration. Fox School District – Gayle Beck, school social worker announced two groups she is involved in that meet regularly.  Anyone interested can attend meetings.
  • CRT (Community Response Team) meets monthly during the school year (August to May). Group consists of any agency in Jefferson County who is interested in attending. We have a speaker each month talk about their agency and the service they provide. Next meeting is March 23rd at Comtrea in Arnold.
  • EJC Homeless Youth Collaboration – This group is a part of Experience Jefferson County (EJC). Meets monthly in effort to help the Homeless Youth of Jefferson County who are still attending school. Next meeting is Wednesday March 7th at 11:00 at the Jefferson County Library, Windsor Branch. 

Living Well Village – Allison Fritschel

·        “Fight for Your Life” Cancer Weekend March 30-April 1.  Weekend Camp will help newly diagnosed cancer patients manage their disease, prevent or treat side effects.  The weekend will include nutritional guidance, strength training, aerobics exercise, stress management, energy management, awareness of community resources, legal guidance, tips to manage the process successfully and support. Disability Resource Association – Erin Benz
  • Jefferson County Education Committee is looking for donations and volunteers for the annual back to school fair in August.  Anyone interested can call Nancy Pope at 636-931-7696.
  • 11th annual Disability Rights Legislative Day is April 4th.  DRA will be attending and providing transportation to the Capitol as well as lunch and snacks.  Contact Erin to RSVP by March 23.  Call 636-931-7696.
