Jefferson County Community Forum –Minutes
September 15, 2014

Announcements  
·         Forum’s Facebook page is now active at www.facebook.com/jeffcoforum.  Directions for posting and using were discussed
·         As the last was not printed, another press release will be sent to the Leader to advertise October’s meeting.  Can look at putting our Facebook page link on local chambers of commerce and other groups’ sites to generate publicity.  Also want to get in touch with forum members from past meetings to invite renewed participation
·         2015 meeting schedule is now available
·         Next meeting is Monday, October 20, 1pm in the Viking Room Annex, Jefferson College, Hillsboro

Josh Henry :
·         Antique Appraisal – Sat 9/20, 11am-3pm. Local antiques expert Joan Komlos will appraise items for $5 each.  Items must be transportable to library meeting room.  Proceeds benefit Arnold Branch Friends of the Library.  No pre-registration needed
·         Save Your Seeds – Sat 9/27, 9:30-10:30am.  Learn all about collecting and saving seeds from different kinds of plants.  The Arnold Branch has a seed library for patrons to take and donate heirloom seeds.  Register, 636-296-5171


Sara Dee:
·         Parkinson’s Support Group – 9/16 and 10/21, 1-2:30pm.  Contact Penny Roth, (636) 931-7696, ext. 129, pennyr@disabilityresourceassociation.org


Sandy Meyer:
·         Smoking Cessation Classes – Beginning 10/1, 6pm at Health Dept. locations in Hillsboro and Arnold.  7-week support-group based program to help quit smoking successfully.  Register, 636-282-1010 x268
·         Dental Van – For children ages 3-18 on MO Medicaid or uninsured.  Van visits schools.  Call the Health Dept. at 636-797-3737 and ask for dental van phone number to make an appointment

Char Linhorst:
·         WIA Youth Program continues to take applications for youth ages 16-21 who fall under eligibility guidelines.  May qualify for assistance with job opportunities, workshops on resume writing, interviewing, career exploration, and more


Mary Tinsley:
·         Constituent service day will be held in Jefferson County on September 16th, 2:30-3:30pm, Crystal City- City Hall

  1. Teenagers between the ages of 16 and 21 who meet the eligibility requirements can still apply to the WIA Youth Program. may be eligible for help with job opportunities, workshops on writing resumes, interviewing, career exploration, and more.
