Jefferson County Library-High Ridge Molly Pfeiffer distributed flyers about Computer classes for MS Publisher, intro to Craigslist. She reported that they are currently looking for volunteers at the Library! She reported that the Northwest branch is now a passport agency. Contact Molly at 636-677-8186 for more information.
American Red Cross, Dale Chambers stated that if you need Emergency Preparedness information go to www.redcrossstl.org. There will be a Community Hero CPR Training on November 13th at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. The cost is $10.00 (normally $47) go to www.redcross.org to register.
WIA Youth, Sandy Nappier WIA Youth is accepting applications to help with career/college planning ages 16-21. Contact Sandy Nappier for more information at 636-287-8909.
Get Healthy Desoto, Debby Campbell reported there will be a Christmas Home Tour Fundraiser on November 27th from 9:30 – 3:00pm. Tickets are $15.00 in advanced or $17.00 at the door. Debby reported that the Better Body Challenge starts on January 20th at 5:00om. There is a Healthy Lunch and Learn regarding Identity Theft on 12-8-10 at noon at St. Andrews UMC cost is $7.00. Equal Housing Opportunity Council, Mira Tanna distributed a survey regarding equal housing in Jefferson County. She distributed flyers regarding Fair Housing for Everyone. If you need additional information contact Mira at 314-534-5800 x7016.
MEAAA, Stephanie Paul distributed flyers regarding Medicare Plan finders; it helps seniors compare Medicare drug plans to ensure they are in the most affordable plan. She distributed flyers on Prescription Cost Help; help screen and assist with applications for MORx and LIS both prescription assistance programs for Medicare Part D low income beneficiaries. She also distributed handouts on Jeffco Empowerment on Google groups; professionals in Jefferson County can share resources, services and events with others. United Way 211, Phyllis Hicks distributed hand out on the quarterly report. She reported that the top 3 needed request that came to 211 from Jefferson County in October was: 1. Electricity Service Payment (123 calls), 2. Rent payment (20 calls), 3. Gas service payment (16 calls).

Jefferson-Franklin Community Action Corp., Paulette Hensley reported that they are taking applications for head start, early head start, and weatherization. Disability Resource Ass., Erin Benz reported that they have AC window units available as of July 1st, first come first serve. Contact James Henson at 636-931-7696 for more information.
Jefferson County Community Partnership, Jessica Rhodes brought handouts for Children’s Trust Fund License Plate Program to share with everyone. Jessica reported that Give Kids a Smile went well about 67 children were seen. Jessica reported that the Dental Coalition will be meeting on July 13th at 1pm at JCCP. Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Stephanie Paul distributed hand outs. She reported that she has started Senior Connect. Senior Connect is a new volunteer based phone reassurance program for homebound seniors I Jefferson County. Seniors willing to volunteer to make or receive calls can call Stephanie to sign up. Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions will be held at the Desoto Senior Center for 6 sessions from May 12 to June 16. Jefferson County P.R.I.D.E., Cindy Pharis distributed hand outs for Professional Training. The training is ‘Prescription Drugs and Alcohol: A Dangerous Cocktail’. It will be at Fox Service Center, Arnold on March 12th from 8:15am-12:30pm. She reported that Prescription Drug Take Back will be starting up again in March. She reported that she can do presentation for any agencies staff or clients on the following: Meth 360, Face 2 Face, and Parents: You Matter! and for youth grades 3-9 they can do presentations on: Nurture your Noggin series and Wreck Ed.
Memory Care Home Solutions, Steve Miskovic reported that there will be a Community Workshop on Dementia Education. It is a one hour program that provides recommendation and strategies that caregivers can use to assist their loved one that has dementia or memory loss. Center for Hearing and Speech, Ann Munier reported that the center is a not-for-profit organization providing audiology and speech services for all ages. They offer financial assistance with all services. They do not turn anyone away for services. The center is supported by United Way a private donation. Get Healthy Desoto, Debbie Campbell distributed the Get Healthy Desoto news letter. http://gethealthydesoto.blogspot.com. She stated that the Healthy Lunch and Learn is on 3-10-10 at 12pm at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church to discuss Home grown Revolution. She stated that the Desoto’s Farmer’s Market’s opening day is May 8th. She stated that the market will be open every Saturday from 8am-noon until October 23rd. Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Stephanie Paul distributed hand outs. She reported that a Caregiver Retreat will be April 21st and Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She distributed a hand out on Prescription drug assistance programs for Medicare. She reported that there is a Alzheimer’s Caregiver support group in Jefferson County. Jefferson County P.R.I.D.E., Cindy Pharis distributed hand outs for Professional Training. The training is ‘Prescription Drugs and Alcohol: A Dangerous Cocktail’. It will be at Fox Service Center, Arnold on March 12th from 8:15am-12:30pm. She reported that Prescription Drug Take Back will be starting up again in March. She reported that she can do presentation for any agencies staff or clients on the following: Meth 360, Face 2 Face, and Parents: You Matter! and for youth grades 3-9 they can do presentations on: Nurture your Noggin series and Wreck Ed.
Memory Care Home Solutions, Steve Miskovic reported that there will be a Community Workshop on Dementia Education. It is a one hour program that provides recommendation and strategies that caregivers can use to assist their loved one that has dementia or memory loss. Center for Hearing and Speech, Ann Munier reported that the center is a not-for-profit organization providing audiology and speech services for all ages. They offer financial assistance with all services. They do not turn anyone away for services. The center is supported by United Way a private donation. American Red Cross, Dale Chambers distributed hand outs on Babysitter Training. The next training is March 13 and 15 from 8:30 to 3pm. Heathcare USA, John Falcone reported that they are trying to increase utilization rates for members in the area of prevention care, such as annual physicals for teens and other ages, dental and mental health. Contact John for more information at 314-444-7903.
JC-DDRB, Pam Branson distributed fliers on All-Ability Expo and Developmental Disabilities Series. The All-Ability Expo will be on March 6, 2010 at 10an-2pm at Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold. Contact Pam at 636-282-4444 for more information. The Developmental Disabilities Series starts April 1st at Jefferson College Hillsboro Camus, all classes are free. The classes will cover: Income Tax Breaks and Credits for Individuals with Development Disabilities, Consumer Credit Education and Fraud Prevention, Understanding Medicare, Transitioning from School to Work, and Understanding Medications. Jefferson County Library-High Ridge, Molly Pfeiffer reported that there will be a job search series to help with resumes and interviewing on 3-1, 3-8, and 3-15. Disability Resource Association, Erin Benz reported that they would be attending the 9th annual disability rights legislative day in Jefferson City on March 23. Some transportation will be available through DRA for those interested in attending. She reported that there is help with Circuit Breakers. This meeting is on 2-24-10 from 9am to noon at Hillsboro Christian Church (lunch will be provided). This meeting is to address local poverty causes and conditions. Energy Assistance is still available for families that meet the income guidelines. Call the office at 636-289-2686 for more information. Step up to Leadership classes will be starting Feb 22 at the JFCAC office. It is a 12 week course that is offered for free.

We’ve got volunteer tax preparers throughout the county to help seniors and those with disabilities with simple tax returns and property tax credits. 314-525-1660 for appointments at: First Baptist Church (Arnold) - DeSoto Senior Center - Quad Cities Senior Center 314-892-6200 for appointments at Northwest Library (High Ridge). MEAAA will be holding the annual public hearing at DeSoto Senior Center on February 19th at 10:30. This is an opportunity to learn more about MEAAA services and what our funding is going towards. The 2nd Annual Jefferson County Caregiver Retreat is being held on April 21st from 11:00 – 3:00 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. We are looking for small donations for caregiver goodie bags as well as a few prize giveaways. Call Stephanie 636-933-1347 if your agency is interested in donating items for the retreat! MEAAA is a partner of the 2010 Census. Attached are fliers stressing the importance and confidentiality of the Census responses. If folks need assistance filling out the 10 question form that will be received in March, they can call the Telephone Questionnaire. Assistance Center at 1-866-872-6868. If a form is not completed and returned a Census worker will visit the home between April and July to record responses.
