• Ellen Coyle announced First Touch is a new faith based organization providing assistance to Jefferson County residents.  She is looking for resources and information about the greatest needs of residents so that First Touch can redefine their service populations and goals.  Anyone with questions or information for Ellen call her at 636-467-5770 or email at eecjpc2000@yahoo.com

Jefferson County Community Partnership – Jessica Rhodes and Cristina Kruetz

·        “Give Kids a Smile”  provides free dental care.  Jefferson Co. children between ages 5-18 with no dental insurance are eligible.  Application packets are due ASAP.  Call Jessica Rhodes at -636-464-5144 x 20 or email coordinator@jccp.org

·        The Jefferson County Early Childhood Comprehensive System is collecting clean containers, 6 inches or bigger for container garden demos for children and families.  Call Jessica for more info.

·        “A Night of Comedy” fundraiser will be held Friday March 23 at The Pastime Club 5557 US Hwy 61/67, Imperial, MO 63052.  Dinner at 6pm, show begins at 7pm.  $25 general admission for one includes two entrée buffet and two drink tickets.  Contact Sophie Emery for more information – 636-464-5144 x 13 or development@jccp.org

·        The Parenting Network, a program for first time stay at home parents with children under 3 yrs who are WIC eligible.  The program provides home visits and support to improve parenting skills and prepare children for entering school. Call Cristina for more info 636-464-5144 x 14.

·        Building Strong Families Parenting Classes.  Classes start March 20^th – May 8^th - Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30.  Christ’s Church, 304B Locust St, Hillsboro. $5 per class per person, or $65 per person for all 8 classes or $95 per couple for all 8 classes. Registration and payment due by March 16^th. Meets requirements for court mandated parenting classes. For more info call Lynn Main at 636-464-5144 x 12.

Jefferson County Library, Northwest Branch – Molly Pfeiffer

• March adult program calendar distributed.
• AARP Driver’s Safety Course – April 5^th 10am-2pm, $12 members, $14 nonmembers. Sign up required. All driving ages welcome.
• PACE Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program - Mondays and Wednesday 9am-10am. You don’t have to have arthritis to participate.  Designed for adults with limited mobility – most exercises can be done from chair.  No sign up required, free classes.
• Genealogy Databases Class – March 7^th 2:30pm and March 8^th 6:30pm – learn more about library’s databases including Ancestry & HeritageQuest. Free for card holders, sign up required.

• Grand Opening and Resource Fair – Northwest Jefferson County Senior Resource Center, 6180 Hwy MM, House Springs.  March 9^th 9am-2pm.  Ribbon Cutting at 9:30.  Information on programs for seniors and caregivers.  Glaucoma screenings, blood pressure checks, games, live music. • New Caregiver Support group meets 2^nd Tuesday of each month at Northwest Senior Resource Center – 6180 Hwy MM, House Springs.  Call Stephanie for more info 636-253-0558
• Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Recruiting teams and corporate sponsors for the First Jefferson County Walk.  No minimum team size or donation required. Free registration. Fox School District – Gayle Beck, school social worker announced two groups she is involved in that meet regularly.  Anyone interested can attend meetings.

• CRT (Community Response Team) meets monthly during the school year (August to May). Group consists of any agency in Jefferson County who is interested in attending. We have a speaker each month talk about their agency and the service they provide. Next meeting is March 23^rd at Comtrea in Arnold.

• EJC Homeless Youth Collaboration – This group is a part of Experience Jefferson County (EJC). Meets monthly in effort to help the Homeless Youth of Jefferson County who are still attending school. Next meeting is Wednesday March 7^th at 11:00 at the Jefferson County Library, Windsor Branch. 

Living Well Village – Allison Fritschel

·        “Fight for Your Life” Cancer Weekend March 30-April 1.  Weekend Camp will help newly diagnosed cancer patients manage their disease, prevent or treat side effects.  The weekend will include nutritional guidance, strength training, aerobics exercise, stress management, energy management, awareness of community resources, legal guidance, tips to manage the process successfully and support. Disability Resource Association – Erin Benz

• Jefferson County Education Committee is looking for donations and volunteers for the annual back to school fair in August.  Anyone interested can call Nancy Pope at 636-931-7696.
• 11^th annual Disability Rights Legislative Day is April 4^th.  DRA will be attending and providing transportation to the Capitol as well as lunch and snacks.  Contact Erin to RSVP by March 23.  Call 636-931-7696.

Jefferson County Library-Arnold, Meredith McCarthy distributed flyers regarding What’s happening at your library.  What’s happening at your library?, flyer is events happening at the Arnold Branch.  Calendar of events can be located at www.jeffersoncountylibrary.org.  She reported that there will be a AARP driver safety Course on 4-9-10 at 10am-2om.  The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members.  There will be a sewing class: for finger potholders and oven mitts on 3-31-0 at 6pm.  She also reported about safely install your home generator class on 4-19-10 at 6:30pm.   Contact Meredith McCarthy at 636-296-5171 for more information.

Jefferson County Community Partnership, Jessica Rhodes discussed the Jefferson County Dental Coalition Meeting will be on 3-9-10 at 2:00pm at JCCP.  Give Kids a Smile starts April 17, May 1 and May 15 at Allied College and Dental Offices.  Volunteers and donations needed.  SIDS/SBS Prevention Training is monthly at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  The next on is 2-16-10 at 6pm.  Also Safe Babies Program, safe sleep equipment is available.  Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems meeting is 2-26-10 at JCCP at 9:30am to address the access to quality early childhood programs.  Contact Jessica for more information at 636-464-5144 ex 20.  February 22-26, 2010 is ride Jeffco Express bus free week!  Contact Dennis Murphy at 636-464-5144 ex 15.

United Way 2-1-1, Phyllis Hicks discussed that they received 116,000 calls last year.  Call 314-242-1882.

American Cancer Society, Lynn Stephan distributed hand outs for Relay for Life-Festus on May7-8, 2010.  Contact Lynn at 314-286-8165 for more information.

Get Healthy Desoto, Debbie Campbell distributed the Get Healthy Desoto news letter.  http://gethealthydesoto.blogspot.com.  She stated that the Healthy Lunch and Learn is on 3-10-10 at 12pm at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church to discuss Home grown Revolution.  She stated that the Desoto’s Farmer’s Market’s opening day is May 8^th.  She stated that the market will be open every Saturday from 8am-noon until October 23^rd.   Please contact Debbie at 636-586-4570 for more information.

Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Stephanie Paul distributed hand outs.  She reported that a Caregiver Retreat will be April 21^st and Jefferson Regional Medical Center.  She distributed a hand out on Prescription drug assistance programs for Medicare.  She reported that there is a Alzheimer’s Caregiver support group in Jefferson County.  For more information contact Stephanie at 636-933-1347.

Jefferson County P.R.I.D.E., Cindy Pharis distributed hand outs for Professional Training.  The training is ‘Prescription Drugs and Alcohol: A Dangerous Cocktail’.  It will be at Fox Service Center, Arnold on March 12^th from 8:15am-12:30pm.  She reported that Prescription Drug Take Back will be starting up again in March.  She reported that she can do presentation for any agencies staff or clients on the following: Meth 360, Face 2 Face, and Parents: You Matter! and for youth grades 3-9 they can do presentations on: Nurture your Noggin series and Wreck Ed.

Memory Care Home Solutions, Steve Miskovic reported that there will be a Community Workshop on Dementia Education.  It is a one hour program that provides recommendation and strategies that caregivers can use to assist their loved one that has dementia or memory loss.  Contact Steve for more information at 314-645-6247.

Center for Hearing and Speech, Ann Munier reported that the center is a not-for-profit organization providing audiology and speech services for all ages.  They offer financial assistance with all services.  They do not turn anyone away for services.  The center is supported by United Way a private donation.  Contact Ann for more information at 314-968-4710.

American Red Cross, Dale Chambers distributed hand outs on Babysitter Training.  The next training is March 13 and 15 from 8:30 to 3pm.  He reported that they can provide Disaster Preparedness classes as a free service.  Contact Dale at 636-464-9150 for more information.  For Blood Services contact 1-800-Give Life or Peggy Lake at 314-239-6173.

Heathcare USA, John Falcone reported that they are trying to increase utilization rates for members in the area of prevention care, such as annual physicals for teens and other ages, dental and mental health.  Contact John for more information at 314-444-7903.

JC-DDRB, Pam Branson distributed fliers on All-Ability Expo and Developmental Disabilities Series.  The All-Ability Expo will be on March 6, 2010 at 10an-2pm at Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd, Arnold.  Contact Pam at 636-282-4444 for more information. The Developmental Disabilities Series starts April 1^st at Jefferson College Hillsboro Camus, all classes are free.  The classes will cover: Income Tax Breaks and Credits for Individuals with Development Disabilities, Consumer Credit Education and Fraud Prevention, Understanding Medicare, Transitioning from School to Work, and Understanding Medications.  To enroll call Jefferson College at 636-797-3000 ex 144.

Jefferson County Library-High Ridge, Molly Pfeiffer reported that there will be a job search series to help with resumes and interviewing on 3-1, 3-8, and 3-15.  She reported that there are ongoing adult programs.  Arthritis exercise classes are on Monday and Wednesday mornings for 9-10.  She reported that there will be a AARP driver safety Course on 4-8-10 at 10am-2om.  The cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non members.  

Disability Resource Association, Erin Benz reported that they would be attending the 9^th annual disability rights legislative day in Jefferson City on March 23.  Some transportation will be available through DRA for those interested in attending.  She reported that there is help with Circuit Breakers.  They ask for a $10 donation for services and the client must be age 65 or disabled with $27,500 max income for single person.  Contact Erin for more information at 636-931-7696.
