Molly Pfeiffer:

AARP Driver’s Safety Training Course.  9/14, 10:00am-2:00pm.  $12 for AARP members, $14 for non-members.  Sign-up is required.

Women’s Auto-Immune Disease Support Group meets 9/15, 2:00pm-4:00pm.


Amber Simmons:

Josh Henry:
Free library services for military members and families at Jefferson County Library.  Free faxing service, computer/internet access, and Skype conferencing.  Military ID must be presented.

Adult Programs at Arnold Library – Register for all programs.  Common Running Injuries: Prevention and Treatment. 9/17, 6:00pm-7:00pm.  Symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment of 6 most common running injuries.

Stamp Up Some Greeting Cards!  9/26, 6:00pm.  We will be making 3 cards for Halloween, Fall, and Christmas.  Supplies provided, $10 fee.

AARP Driver Safety Course.  10/25, 1:00pm-5:00pm.  $12 for AARP members, $14 non-members.  Refresher course for defensive driving, new traffic laws, safety equipment, and handling problem situations.


Stephanie Paul:

Caregiver Support Group for individuals providing unpaid care to a disabled or aging loved one.  Facilitated by MEAAA staff.  Meets second Tuesday each month, 2:00pm-3:30pm at Northwest Jefferson County Senior Resource Center, 6180 Highway MM, House Springs, 63051.  636-253-0558, www.mideastaaa.org

Volunteer opportunities for Meals on Wheels, front desk/clerical, kitchen, cleaning, and activities, and more.  Opportunities available M-F for as little as 1 day/week.  Mileage reimbursement available. Call 636-207-0847 ext. 114.

Senior Companions Program.  For seniors who want to help and provide companionship for other, homebound seniors.  Stipend and training available.  Contact Lisa, 636-207-0847.

De Soto Farmer’s Market will be open Labor Day Weekend, 9/1, 8:00am-12:00pm.

Fall Festival – De Soto Farmer’s Market will partner with De Soto Chamber of Commerce, moving to Walther Park for 1 day, 9/15.  Special hours 9:00am-3:00pm. 

Celebrate Our Heritage at the De Soto Farmer’s Market, 9/22.  Specialty artisans and demonstrations include broommaking, blacksmithing, basketweaving, crochet, tatting, and spinning.  Civil War re-enactment demonstrations with the Sons of Union Veterans.

Disability Resource Association, Erin Benz stated that she currently submitting names for 100 neediest people.  Please contact Erin if you know anyone that is in need for holiday donations.   Contact Erin at 636-931-7696.

 

American Red Cross, Dale Chambers stated that there a free Disaster Education Presentation for all ages, contact Dale at 636-464-9150.  Dale distributed handouts on Pandemic Flu, Preparing Makes Sense for Older Americans, and Preparing Makes Sense for People with Disabilities and Special Needs.  Dale stated that on October 21, 2009 there will be a Community Heroes Blood Drive at the Jefferson College Viking Room.  Also there will be adult CPR AED class with the blood drive.  The cost is $10.00.  Please visit www.redcrossstl.org to register as soon as possible.

 

St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Gwyn Harvey stated distributed the Fall 2009 Your Healthy Today publication.  In the publication the now events section. 

 

Alzheimer’s Association, Katie McLean distributed a handout for 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease. 

 

HealthCare USA, Daphne Terrill stated that there is open enrollment for Health Net Managed Care.  Daphne distributed the Doc’s Community CollaBearation Newsletter.  Daphne distributed candy bars to thank all the partners in the Jefferson County Forum.

Jefferson County 9-1-1, Geri Mayer talked about how the tax for 9-1-1 services would start in October.  The program would be implemented in two different phases.  The 9-1-1 service will be able to locate cell phones and do a reverse call to inform the community of any dangerous situations.
