Jefferson County Library-Arnold, Meredith McCarthy distributed flyers regarding What’s happening at your library. What’s happening at your library?, flyer is events happening at the Arnold Branch. Calendar of events can be located at www.jeffersoncountylibrary.org. Share your life story in just six words at www.jeffersoncountylibrary.org thru March. You can text the Library for answers. Jefferson-Franklin Community Action Corp., Paulette Hensley and Deanna Broadwell discussed Jefferson County Community Empowerment Collaboration Meeting. This meeting is on 2-24-10 from 9am to noon at Hillsboro Christian Church (lunch will be provided). This meeting is to address local poverty causes and conditions. Energy Assistance is still available for families that meet the income guidelines. Call the office at 636-289-2686 for more information. Step up to Leadership classes will be starting Feb 22 at the JFCAC office. It is a 12 week course that is offered for free.
Jefferson County Community Partnership, Jessica Rhodes discussed the Jefferson County Dental Coalition Meeting will be on 2-9-10 at 3:30pm at JCCP. Give Kids a Smile starts April 13, 17 and May 15 at Allied College and Dental Offices. Volunteers and donations needed. SIDS/SBS Prevention Training is monthly at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. The next on is 2-16-10 at 6pm. Also Safe Babies Program, safe sleep equipment is available. Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems meeting is 2-26-10 at JCCP at 9:30am to address the access to quality early childhood programs.

American Cancer Society, Lynn Stephan distributed hand outs on Having Cancer is Hard Finding Help Shouldn’t Be, Relay for Life-Festus, Road to Recovery. Contact Lynn at 314-286-8165 for more information.
Get Healthy Desoto, Debbie Campbell distributed the Get Healthy Desoto news letter. http://gethealthydesoto.blogspot.com. She stated that the Healthy Lunch and Learn is on 2-10-10 at 12pm at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church to discuss Home grown Revolution. She stated that there will be a Growers Workshop on 2-2-10 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church. Also there will be a Market Master Certification Class on 2-4-10 at 6-9om by St. Andrews United Methodist Church, facilitated by JCHD. Please contact Debbie at 636-586-4570 for more information.
Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Stephanie Paul distributed hand outs. We’ve got volunteer tax preparers throughout the county to help seniors and those with disabilities with simple tax returns and property tax credits. 314-525-1660 for appointments at: First Baptist Church (Arnold) - DeSoto Senior Center - Quad Cities Senior Center 314-892-6200 for appointments at Northwest Library (High Ridge). MEAAA will be holding the annual public hearing at DeSoto Senior Center on February 19th at 10:30. This is an opportunity to learn more about MEAAA services and what our funding is going towards. The 2nd Annual Jefferson County Caregiver Retreat is being held on April 21st from 11:00 – 3:00 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. We are looking for small donations for caregiver goodie bags as well as a few prize giveaways. Call Stephanie 636-933-1347 if your agency is interested in donating items for the retreat! MEAAA is a partner of the 2010 Census. Attached are fliers stressing the importance and confidentiality of the Census responses. If folks need assistance filling out the 10 question form that will be received in March, they can call the Telephone Questionnaire. Assistance Center at 1-866-872-6868. If a form is not completed and returned a Census worker will visit the home between April and July to record responses.

Finalized Meeting Dates for 2010
I heard back from Jefferson College and below are the confirmed meeting dates for 2010. We weren't able to get our normal room on 4/19 so that seems like a good time to test drive having the meeting on the road at a participant's location. I will solicit volunteers at the January meeting so please check your availability if you are interested in hosting the meeting. We'll vote if there are numerous potential hosts and majority rules!
