COMTREA ANNOUNCES AWARD OF FEDERAL GRANT FOR HOMELESS AND REHOUSING
Community Treatment, Inc. (COMTREA) submitted a grant to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to create a collaborative effort to resolve the issue of insufficient housing for individuals and households in Jefferson County, Missouri. This two-year grant was developed in conjunction with David Kennedy, Steve Stohl, Chuck Banks and the Jefferson County Commission. The grant was approved for $489,544 and will be coordinated with other social service agencies under the leadership of COMTREA.
The project will serve individuals and families who meet criteria where no other appropriate housing options have been identified and the financial resources and supports needed to obtain immediate housing or remain in existing housing are lacking. Criteria will include mental health and substance abuse issues, victims of domestic violence, leaving transitional housing programs, sleeping in an emergency shelter, living on the streets, sudden and significant loss of income, or significant increases in utility costs.
COMTREA will hire a Case Manager to coordinate the social services necessary to provide these housing solutions for residents of Jefferson County. The program is scheduled to begin January 1, 2010.
