  • Serves as Ombudsman for MoHealthNet issues / Advocates for Family Health
    • Discussed changes in access to incontinence supplies, treatment and diapers.
      • State lost in court.  There is a permanent ruling that adults have access to incontinent supplies through MoHealthNet even if not in nursing homes. 
    • People should call the hotline 314-534-1263 or 1-800-444-0514 x1251 if they need help with health services with MoHealthNet.

  • The Better Body Challenge kicks off 01.26 from 5pm to 7:30pm at Vineland Elementary.  It is a 12 week program and costs $25 to participate.

            PROGRAM COORDINATING COMMITTEE   AGREEMENT
 A requirement of the Jefferson Franklin Community Action's Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS), is to form a Program Coordinating Committee.
The purpose of the committee is to assist the Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator in identifying resources for our families and to provide advice the coordinator can use in developing action plans for each participant. We have the choice of forming a committee ourselves or simply partnering with an existing group of service providers in our area. The later is what we have chosen to do. In addition to forming a Program Coordinating Committee, we are required to obtain commitments from members of the group confirming that their agency/organization will provide their services to our FSS families. If you are willing to partner with us in this endeavor, please complete the following:

Medicare Open Enrollment Dates have changed to October 15-December 7th for 2012 coverage.  MEAAA is assisting with plan comparisons to ensure Medicare beneficiaries are in the most affordable option based on their medication usage.  Please contact Stephanie Paul at 636-933-1347 or complete the attached worksheet and return by mail for a comparison.
MEAAA will be available at the following locations to provide Medicare Part D unbiased comparisons and enrollment assistance.  Beneficiaries should bring their Medicare cards and a list of their medications.

"Celebrate our Heritage" day at the Farmer's Market will include a
civil war re-enactment and vendor demonstrations.


Erin Benz, Disability Resource Association-  Currently expanding a new
youth group geared for students ages 14-21, with or without a
disability.  Topics covered will be self esteem, life skills,
careers,etc.  Will also give plenty of opportunity for socialization.
Meetings will be Sept 12 & 26, October 11 & 24, and November 14 & 28.
Meetings will be held at the DRA office in Crystal City from 4-5:30
pm.  Transportation may be available.

Free Air Conditioners for Low Income Elderly

Hammers of Hope, a program of the Jefferson County Community Partnership, will be offering free air conditioners for seniors 65 and over who meet low income standards. These are 5,000 BTU units by Frigidaire and they will have 30 units by the end of the week. The units are being purchased with grant money and Lowes has agreed to sell the units at cost. LeGuin’s classic sci-fi work, The Dispossessed. 7/18/11 at 6:30

Handed out a pamphlet that explains that 211 is a toll free number that connects people with available community resources and stated she is in charge of their Database.


Case Management - Pam Branson stated that she had no information to share today. She is associated with Next Steps.


Legal Services of Eastern Missouri- Missy Waldman handed out a brochure titled Advocates for Family Health. This is for Families, children, and pregnant women. They help them with problems related to eligibility and coverage. She also stated that Cardinal Glennon Hospital is still in partnership with Molena Health Plan.


Experience Jefferson County- Mary Beth Ottinger stated that they are now headed in a new direction. They have four areas of concern: Military family support for active duty and returning home service members. They want to provide support for them. Homeless high school students this is a bigger problem than most people would realize. Grants they want to form a group that will write and find grants. The chair is Robin Scott. Value of Higher Education this is similar to Gear Up. They want to start educating the students earlier, maybe in the 10th grade. Fifty percent of Jefferson College students are Career and Technical Education students not transfer students. They want to raise the number of students going to college.

Mid- East Area Agency- Stephanie Paul spoke about a Welcome to Medicare workshop being held on 6/24/11 Questions about how to enroll in medicare and the different programs will be answered.


Open Door- Karen Gibson spoke about behavior health collaboration / case management. Case management is free for Jefferson County residents 55 yrs. Old and above. They provide education, care coordination, resources and referrals for older adults and care givers.

Help Joplin Recover

The City of Arnold has been contacted by Joplin asking for help.  The Meramec/Arnold Elks are sending a truck down on Thursday, May 26 with emergency supplies.  They are looking for blankets, bottled water and monetary donations. The Meramec/Arnold Elks Lodge is located at 1515 Miller Road, Imperial. Phone: 636-464-8960 for more information.

 The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Joplin at Missouri Southern State University, Young Gymn, 3950 East newman Road. Joplin residents are being encouraged to register on the American Red Cross "Safe and Well" web site to let family and friends know how they are. If you wish to check on loved ones who may have registered on this site, log on to the American Red Cross web site at www.redcross.org. Then click on the "List yourself as safe and well" link wnich will provide you with information on how to find someone who has registered on the list.

The class will be on 6-4 at 9am, $12 for AARP members, and $14 for non members, contact Myra Hill. Jefferson County Library-High Ridge Molly Pfeiffer distributed flyers about Job Now Demo which is a hands on demo of using Job Now online job/resume date base on 6-6 at 6pm, call to register. MEAAA, Stephanie Paul distributed flyers on Jefferson County Housing Task Force created the Jefferson County Mortgage Crisis brochure. Free assistance is available for Jefferson County Residents facing foreclosure or unable to make mortgage payments call 877-422-3043 for help. MEAAA is helping link those age 55 or older up to free blind/low vision services with Rehabilitation Services for the Blind. JFCAC, Paulette Hensley stated that they are taking applications for Head Start, Early Head Start and Weatherization. She stated that they are doing a county wide good drive ‘Jefferson County Huger Task Force’ on July 30th if you are interested in volunteering call 636-789-2686 x 117. JCCP, Jessica Rhodes distributed flyers on the Children’s Trust Fund ‘License to Care’ Program. JCCP is the Jefferson County Partners. She discussed that Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems is sponsoring a food drive and collecting diapers, toilet paper, baby wipes and toiletry items through the end of May. American Cancer Society, Lynn Stephan distributed the Where to Turn brochure on the kids of services that the American Cancer Society has to offer. She stated that Jefferson Regional Medical Center is offering free yoga classes for cancer survivors on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month at 7:30 in the conference center at the hospital. Legal Services, Missy Waldman stated that they are taking referrals for children, pregnant women and families with problems accessing MO Health Net or FSD Eligibility. Call 314-256-8767.

Get Healthy Desoto, Debby Campbell distributed flyers on the Get Healthy Desoto News letter. She distributed brochures of the Desoto’s Farmer’s Market. National Chidren’s Study, Nikki Weinstein stated that the NCS will begin enrolling women who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant in Jefferson County in 2012. The pilot has started in St.Louis and has about 45 women enrolled. They are excited to take what they have learned in St. Louis to help Jefferson County study. Get Healthy Desoto, Debby Campbell reported that the Desoto Farmers Market will be open for a Bedding Plant Sale on April 23 and 30th at 8am-12 and the grand opening is May 7th! She reported that there will be a fundraiser starting April 23. The fundraiser is a cook book from the Desoto Farmer’s Market called Cook Fresh. Advance orders are $12 and opening day is$15. There will be a Dinner and Show fundraiser on April 15th at 6:30pm at Ball Creek Bowl in Desoto. It will include a full dinner and a show by the Desoto Famer’s Market Musicians. Advance tickets are $20 and that day tickets are $25. Get Healthy Desoto Golf Tournament Fundraiser is on May 13th at Rain Tree. It will be 280.00 for a 4 person scramble, dinner is included. Jefferson College WIA Youth, Sandy Nappier reported there are jobs for youth 17-21 at State Parks Youth Corps. She reported that there will be a job fair on April 2 at Route 66 form 10-2pm. There is a Google group and family health & education fair to collect donations for school supplies. She reported on Step up to Leadership; classes are being held at Arnold Career Center. Participants learn about how to participate in community meetings. JFACA is accepting applications for weatherization, head start, early head start and energy assistance. Legal Services of Eastern Mo, Missy Waldman discussed MO Health Net Medicaid.
